Trailers - Earthcote moontides Airstream
Freeworld's Earthcote Paints have collaborated with The Granddaddy on the Airstream project, supplying edgy coatings and working in close association with project developer Jody Aufrichtig and his team of artists. The Earthcote Airstream has had its interior done in a theme called Moontides, and it's decked out in pearly, luminescent textures that give the interior a dreamy, layered feel, as if you're gazing up into an inky sky, washed in moonlight.
Artists Susan Woodley and Brigitte Dewberry combined crushed and layered materials with Earthcote Worn Leather in midnight blues and greens and Tidalcote, a coating containing with bits of crushed pearlescent marine material.
Said Woodley: "We wanted to create an experience which feels like a soul journey. The whole idea started with a piece of wording on an artwork of ours called "I am layers." We translated the idea of a journey into all sorts of textures and tactile experiences inside the Airstream. We called it Moontides because the tides tie in with the idea of change, the cycles of life and journeying into a fantasy realm. There is also a lot of written messaging in the airstream, with words guiding you through the journey, all of them open to personal interpretation. An interactive component that invites guests to write personal messages in postcards and clip them up on suspended strands of gut."
Woodley and Dewberry have used mirror and frosted glass, soft crushed white linens and loads of vinyl. They have vinyl coated the entire bedroom in pitch black, then layered it with shapes that look like luminous jellyfish. They have also brought in some very strong grainy black & white photographic images which will also be printed on soft furnishings.
"This is kind of like a place where love and magic collide, giving visitors a subliminal feeling of the strands and layers that connect us," said Dewberry.
